Our Boarding School
“ Here at Royal High School Bath, we know boarding - it is part of the personality of our school. We’ve been specialists in girls’ only boarding for 150 years and offer a warm welcoming community in an environment where girls’ individuality is truly nurtured.”
Boarding in Bath
At RHS we offer a full range of boarding options in Years 7-13 to suit individual family needs including, occasional stays, regular flexi boarding of up to 3 nights a week every week, weekly boarding from Sunday night to Friday after school and full boarding.
Set in secure grounds, our boarding houses are surrounded by beautiful scenery within walking distance of the UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath, in Somerset. This world-famous city offers something very special. With its diverse history and heritage, thriving creative scene and cutting-edge businesses, Bath is truly a unique place to live and study.
We offer full, day and flexible boarding options for girls aged from 11 to 18, with a separate boarding house for sixth formers. We welcome a diverse, international group of girls into our boarding houses, so whether your daughter is an international student or a UK student, we can cater for her boarding needs. We pride ourselves in providing a home away from home where she can develop her sense of confidence and develop a network of international friendships that will span a lifetime.

Boarding is a big life-step – it’s exciting, but also challenging. Our boarding staff know this and have a strong focus on creating a positive and secure atmosphere and keeping your daughter well.
An exceptionally experienced and dedicated team of boarding staff live in the boarding houses alongside the girls. They provide 24/7 guidance and support and take great care in getting to know each and every girl personally and creating a secure environment in which every girl is able to thrive.
Our girls’ wellbeing is paramount to us, and we have an extensive wellbeing programme and pastoral support here at Royal High School Bath meaning your daughter will feel supported at all stages of her time with us, whatever her needs. Our ethos is to look after oneself, look out for one another and to be kind.
All of our students are encouraged to take on leadership roles and we value student voice within our boarding houses to help shape how they are run. Being part of our family of boarders will help your daughter develop her sense of confidence and our programme of evening and weekend activities will help her share new experiences and, of course, have a lot of fun.
Many of our girls also become active members of the local community and volunteer their time to local and international charities and not for profit organisations. There are opportunities for boarders to participate in any clubs and activity programmes outside of school for which the boarding staff will enable your daughter to attend.
Our boarding houses
Our Senior School girls have a wealth of wellbeing and academic support in their newly refurbished boarding houses. For our Sixth Formers, living with friends, taking on responsibility and developing independence form the basis of Gloucester House.
Our boarding houses are home to girls from across the world – we're very proud to be multi-cultural. Our diversity means our girls learn about different cultures and get the opportunity to live in a thriving, international community before embarking on their journey into the adult world.
School House
School House is located on the top floor of our neo-gothic Main Building. With spacious common rooms, quiet study areas and fashionable mezzanine bedrooms, our girls are supported both academically and pastorally through their formative years at senior school. Our RHS Learner Qualities (BRICKS) extend into boarding recognising the achievements of our boarders and the unique skills they learn from living together away from home. We have a sizeable kitchen for cooking and baking together and this is where School House boarders will gather each day over a snack at the end of lessons before embarking on their clubs, going to the Music School for practice, the Art block or the gym on site.
Gloucester House
Gloucester House offers Sixth Formers an exclusive space to socialise, study and enjoy their home from home. With the choice of a single or twin study bedroom, the girls have access to comfortable communal areas, a large modern kitchen and quiet study areas. Here, girls benefit from having more independence, while remaining an integral part of the school community. Sixth Formers are given the freedom to organise their own timetables, with structured time set aside for demanding academic work. Many take up community work and volunteering opportunities and we very much encourage our girls to enjoy the rich experiences that Bath has to offer.
