A warm welcome back to past boarders
Senior School, Boarding
This weekend, our boarders had a lovely surprise. We were joined by two past boarders Magali (Year 9) and Emmeline (Year 11) who spent this weekend with us in boarding. This mini reunion sparked off lots of joy and excitement among the girls who were delighted to see our guests. A wam welcome back, Magali and Emmeline!
They picked a great weekend to join our boarders, as there was plenty to do with lots of fun activities planned.
On Saturday, our Year 7 and Year 8 boarders played mini golf at Congo Falls Adventure Golf through "blue lagoons, mysterious islands, gushing waterfalls, wobbly bridges and diamond caves", while Year 9 honed their skills closer to home, and took on the 18-hole mini golf course in the beautiful surroundings of Victoria Park. The Congo Falls teams had two joint winners (Miss Chapman and Fiona) with 47 points over a total 18 holes!
Year 10 boarders enjoyed a trip to the cinema - a weekend activity that has always been a firm favourite with the girls. They watched Kung Fu Panda 4 which proved to be an entertaining watch.
Year 11 boarders took a much deserved break from revision to play badminton in the sports hall. It was a fun session and helped the girls away from their desks and moving around. We try to encourage students studying for exams to break up their revision with some physical activity. Research shows moving around and exercise can help reduce stress levels and improve concentration.

On Sunday, our Year 7 boarders made "towel roll cakes". They took inspiration from Chinese cakes that one of them had made before, similar to a Swiss roll but with crêpes instead of sponge.
Years 8, 9 and 10 visited The Wave in Bristol where they were given a surfing lesson delivered by oe of The Wave's qualified coaches. They were given a full health and safety briefing, a 30-minute dry land lesson and one hour in the lake. They learnt about water safety, surf equipment, body positioning and how to surf. The coaches were very good at making it fun for everyone, whatever their surfing ability (mostly none!) and fitness level.
Our Year 11 boarders were treated to afternoon tea as a year group with the housemistresses as a fun way of unwinding while enjoying each other's company chatting and sharing some delicious snacks.
We have a strong focus on creating a positive and secure atmosphere for our boarders. It is important to us that whatever stage a boarder is at, they feel supported and enjoy their time as a boarder. We offer an extensive programme of events and activities, but at the same time, make sure each girl has plenty of time to unwind and relax and spend their weekend taking part in activities they enjoy.
