An Interview with an A Level student: Poppy Newman

Poppy, RHS alumna 2021 and bursary student, achieved fantastic results in her A Levels and goes on to study English Literature at Cardiff. We asked her about her experience studying A Levels at RHS and about her bursary.

How did you find your A Level courses?

My A Level courses were inspirational. They not only aided my academic development but inspired me to take on more challenges in the two years at the Sixth Form. Driven to achieve the best, they have helped me shape my future as I look forward to continuing my passion for English literature at university and beyond.

What skills for the future have you learnt thanks to your A Level courses?

I have learned a vast number of skills throughout my A Levels; from time management to essay writing, they have also taught me that I am capable of anything I put my mind to.

What will you miss most about RHS Sixth Form?

I will miss the support from all members of staff that I received on a day-to-day basis. From little chats after school to one-on-one support for each subject, I will miss the friendly and supportive environment of the Sixth Form.

What excites you most about the future?

I’m excited about my academic studies but also pursuing my passion. As English literature became my favourite subject at school, I knew that I was destined to continue studying it at Cardiff. I am also excited for the independence of university and the new change of lifestyle I will be leading in September.

What would you say to someone considering coming to RHS Sixth Form?

You will not find a nicer environment at any Sixth Form. The Roya High School Sixth Form is the most supportive and warm environment in which I spent the best two years of my life. A good tip is to remember that everyone is there for you and to support you, so never be afraid to ask for help!

How has your RHS Bursary helped you?

Being lucky enough to receive a bursary to Royal High School Bath provided me with the opportunity to flourish as both an academic student and as a person. With inspiring staff and dedicated students, this school has facilitated my progress to reach my full potential and offered me an environment that allows me to always be myself. Receiving a bursary was life changing for me and I know I would not be the person I am today without this opportunity.
