Budding young artists enjoy art masterclass at RHSB
Senior School, Outreach, Art
We were delighted to welcome nearly 60 students from primary schools in and around Bath to our Graeme Preedy Art School at our Senior School site in Lansdown. The girls who ranged from Year 4s to Year 6s had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed learning a variety of art techniques and skills at a special art workshop focusing on Texture and Materials.
Led by our RHSB Art Department, the girls had a fun and busy morning creating woven work and then producing drawings in a mini sketch book. They loved exploring and creating artwork combining different materials and textures, and also learning to refine their drawing skills by selecting a focal point and focusing on lines and detail.
Parents who dropped off the girls at 10am and collected them after 2.5 hours were impressed by the quantity and quality of the work the girls produced in just one morning. One parent said: “My daughter had an amazing time. She loves art, but often is disappointed that art lessons at school tend to be quite short, so this was a fantastic way for her to spend a Saturday morning – getting creative with her friends in an inspiring environment being encouraged by a lovely team of art teachers. She came home feeling really encouraged and happily showed us all the art she had made.”
“ We loved having the girls as part of the RHSB school community for a morning. It was wonderful to see them making the most of our beautiful art facilities and applying themselves to the different activities. It was wonderful to see them making the most of our beautiful art facilities and applying themselves to the different activities. We used a range of media to explore texture and line and aimed to inspire the girls to think creatively about what they were making. We were so impressed by the standard of the work produced and certainly felt that there were many students who showed great potential for the future. I hope this workshop helps fuel their passion and further inspires them to carry on drawing, painting and making art at home and at school.”
