Celebrating International Women's Day
Nursery and Prep School
To celebrate International Women's Day this year, the Prep School are focused on the stories of women that we know - our teachers at school, and the women in our wider school community.
On Monday, some of our teachers spoke about exciting stories and things they have accomplished, from community work, teaching on remote mountainside villages in Nepal, studying and living abroad, and working to change the world.
Year 6 had a special session with Ms. Lilley, and we were also joined by some of our mums who came in to talk to us about their lives, jobs and paths through life.
Mrs Redpath, Yr 6 teacher said:
'As part of celebrating International Women's Day, we invited some of our mums to come in and speak to Year 6 about their careers and adventures in the world, from fashion and design, event production, academia, business and banking to voluntary aid work. They spoke candidly about the paths they'd taken, and the many twists and turns along the way. Our girls loved it!
"I think it's amazing that adults are still learning and growing and changing, just like children."
"Was she really the only woman in the office with 800 men?!"
"I was inspired that she put other people before herself."
"What can I do a PhD in? Anything at all? Oooohhh..."
"I thought it was cool that they had all tried different things! I want to do that!"
By focusing on women that we know in our school community, who have achieved some incredible things, some of our biggest and wildest dreams can seem more possible than ever!'
