Celebrating our netball stars
Sixth Form, Senior School, Sport
We are so lucky at Royal High School Bath to have so many amazing athletes. This week we wanted to put the spotlight on our netball players. Currently we have an unprecedented number of players training and playing regularly with some of our region’s top netball clubs and at highly competitive levels every week - from club netball to the elite Netball Performance League.
With students in U14 and U16 Regional to C teams at club level from Team Bath and Cougars netball clubs, as well as players in senior club teams too, we want to celebrate all their successes as well as the commitment, energy and dedication our girls put in during each term for not only netball but across all sports.
A massive well done to Lola (Year 10) and Hattie (Year 9) who have been selected for the County Squads, a brilliant achievement. A large number of our girls have also been selected for the Team Bath Futures Pathway and selected in the Athlete Development Centre (ADC) including Sophie (Year 11), Emily (Year 11), Imogen (Year 10) and Isla (Year 10), which is an incredible achievement. Also, Celeste (Year 9) has been selected for the Severn Stars Nova Performance Centre which again is such an incredible achievement.
“ I love netball at school! Playing and learning with the older girls helped develop me into the player I am today. The coaching and opportunities we have at RHS are amazing and I think they will help me with every goal I hope to achieve”Imogen, Year 10, U16 District Squad and Athlete Development Centre
“ Even though we are in different years I love that we are all really close and work so well together”Isla, Year 10, U16 District Squad and Athlete Development Centre
Furthermore, we are incredibly proud of Jessica (Year 12) and Olivia (Year 11) who have both not only been selected for the Athlete Development Centre but have also been selected for the U17 Netball Performance League (NPL) long squad which is an incredible accomplishment and is the country’s netball premier league for players at U17, U19 and U21 level.
“ RHSB has given me such amazing opportunities playing school netball with the help of great coaching which has encouraged me to play Team bath and led to training with passionate, driven girls all over the country every week. Netball has helped me become more confident in myself and on court”Olivia, Year 11, U16 District Squad, Athlete Development Centre and U17 NPL
In addition to this Jessica has also been selected for the GDST Select Netball squad which is a squad of 12 players from across all GDST Schools, she will have access to some amazing coaching and will be part of the squad who play at Loughborough University and take other elite teams from across the UK. Outstanding achievement and some amazing netball success from Jess this year.
“ Recently I got into the Team Bath U17 NPL long squad after training with their ADCs for the past couple of years. Earlier this year I was also selected for the GDST select VII squad along with players from around other GDST schools. I’ve had so much support from all the teachers at RHS within the school teams, having the opportunity to play with so many different age groups as I’ve gone through the school, to improve my play. This has helped me so much to gain confidence going through these trial processes as I know I have so much support from school and can always talk about specific issues or questions I have”Jessica, Year 12, U19 District Squad, Athlete Development Centre, U17 Netball Performance League and GDST Select Netball
All players will have access to some incredible coaching. We are extremely proud of all our girls and their commitment, hard work and determination, we are looking forward to watch how they grow.
Layla Slade, our Head of Netball, said: “I am honoured to be able work with so many fantastic athletes and am incredibly proud of all the netballers at RHSB”.
“ Through netball the teachers at RHSB give us the skills to grow as players but also as people”Eva, Year 11, U16 District Squad
“ Netball RHS nurtures girls to reach their full sporting potential”India, Year 12, U19 District Squad
