COP27 at Royal High Prep
Sixth Form, Nursery and Prep School, Student Voice
Whilst Heads of State and politicians met in Egypt for the United Nations Climate Change Conference, Royal High's own Ministers for the Environment and Eco Inspire girls from Years 3-6 met for their own Prep School COP27.
Eco Team Prefect Leaders from the Senior School spoke to the Ministers and showed them a video about the progress that have made during their year in office to help make the Senior School more sustainable. After their talk, the Senior students then answered questions from the Prep School delegates. It was fascinating to hear how much has been going on at the Senior School and our Prep girls were clearly inspired by their actions.
The Ministers were full of ideas gathered from their own classes, which were discussed and then delegates voted on which ones should take priority. These included reducing food waste by being allowed to try a food before committing to a plate of it, organising charity events to raise money for environmental charities and making our library greener by restocking it with second-hand books.
The students from both sites agreed to meet again to continue working on their sustainability agenda.
“ It was great to hear so many ideas from the Prep School Ministers for the Environment for us all to work on. We definitely have lots to consider back at the Senior School and will continue to work with the Prep Eco Team to reduce our impact on the environment. ”~ Tobi and Anastaasia
