Eco Society Leads the Way in Sustainability at RHB

Senior School, Environment, Sustainability

The Royal High Eco Society has kicked off the new year with creativity, innovation, and a strong commitment to sustainability. With environmental awareness at the heart of our school community, students have been taking meaningful steps to reduce waste, promote recycling, and make a real difference.

A huge congratulations to Gemma in Year 8 for winning the competition to design our brand-new Eco Society logo. This design will represent our collective effort toward a greener future. In the spirit of sustainability, we also created our own eco-friendly badges to proudly display our commitment to environmental responsibility. A special thank you to Katherine for coming up with the brilliant idea of making badges using recycled bottle tops—she also played a key role in collecting them.

This term, we also launched the ‘Tub2Pub’ campaign, an initiative to collect plastic tubs for recycling. Not only does this effort help reduce plastic waste, but the recycled materials will also be transformed into outdoor furniture, all while raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

In addition to recycling, the Eco Society has been focused on enhancing biodiversity within our school grounds. Students have been hard at work creating bug hotels, which will soon be placed around our beautiful green spaces to support local wildlife.

We’re also continuing to highlight the importance of our crisp packet recycling bins—these collected packets have even been repurposed for exciting IB projects.

The Eco Society meets weekly, always coming up with new and exciting ideas to help our school become more sustainable. Next term promises even more impactful initiatives, and we look forward to making an even bigger difference together.

If you’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear your ideas—let’s work together to create a greener future! 🌍💚
