Empowered Women Empower Women: A Celebration of Strength and Sisterhood

This morning, our school came together for a truly inspiring International Women’s Day assembly, embracing the theme: “Empowered Women Empower Women.”

It was a moment to reflect, to celebrate, and to remind ourselves of the strength we gain when we lift each other up.

A Legacy of Change

We were excited to welcome Cheryl Giovannoni, Chief Executive of the GDST, who shared the story of the four remarkable women who founded the GDST: Mrs Maria Grey, Miss Emily Shirreff, Lady Stanley of Alderley, and Miss Mary Gurney. These suffragists, who didn’t even have the right to vote at the time, fought tirelessly to ensure that girls had access to education, opening doors that had long been closed to women. Their determination and vision still inspire us today.

The Courage to be Bold

Our own Royal High School Bath Alumna, Imogen Pudduck, spoke passionately about her career journey and the ongoing fight for gender equality in the workplace. She encouraged students to be bold, curious, and unafraid to stand out—reminding us that emotional intelligence, resilience, and lifting others up are just as vital as IQ.

Empowering Women in Sport

Sport is another arena where women continue to break barriers. Heidi Baber, our Head of Sport, shared her experiences playing hockey for England, and the importance of women empowering each other in sport. Whether on the pitch, in the classroom, or in life, teamwork, encouragement, and support make all the difference.

The Power of Sisterhood

Eva, one of our inspiring Year 13 students, spoke from the heart about the true meaning of sisterhood—how it shapes our experiences, strengthens our confidence, and carries us through challenges. From boarding life to Ten Tors and competitive sports, she reminded us that sisterhood is about standing together, lifting each other up, and celebrating every success—big or small.

“Sisters are people you look up to, people you share your passions with. You look out for your sisters. You encourage them. You are proud of them.” – Eva, Year 13

Today’s assembly was a call to action for our students to lead by example, be an ally, be a cheerleader. Celebrate success and celebrate effort. Because when we empower one another, we create a world where every girl and woman can thrive.
