Fun with Physics in the Ultimate Science Club
Senior School, STEM
There was a flying to start to this term’s Ultimate Science Club, as Year 7 and 8 students, ably led by Year 13 student Chhaya and her team of helpers, were challenged to build mini catapults to fire ping pong balls as far and high as possible.
The following week they made and tested car bottles - a good recycling of plastic bottles! Unfortunately, many of the designs did not enable sufficient pressure to build up inside them for the cars to be propelled very far. Sorcery took place as milk was turned into plastic (also known as casein plastic) and a lovely smell of lavender and rose permeated the labs as bath salts and bath bombs were made.
In the final session before half term Alginate worms were made, some of which were found to glow under UV light!
