Holodomor workshop for IB and A level History students
Sixth Form, History
IB and A level History students in year 12 and 13 recently joined together for a special history workshop about the Holodomor ('Killing by Hunger').
The Holodomor was a terrible famine that took place in Ukraine in 1932-33. Nearly four million people died of starvation in what has been recognised by the U.K. parliament as a genocide.
Our workshop was delivered by Anna Baldin, a MA student at London School of Economics who is working for the Foundation for the History of Totalitarianism. Anna used primary sources to explore the famine and the international reaction. Our students gained a fascinating insight into the Holodomor itself and also the work of historians in researching this catastrophic tragedy.
