Successful Open Day 2022
Sixth Form, Senior School
After two years of smaller, and often virtual open events, we were delighted to fully open our doors on Saturday 17 September for our Open Morning, which was preceded by a highly successful Sixth Form Open Evening the day before.
Over the two events we welcomed more than 200 people. Parents and children, who were keen to find out more about our school, enjoyed exploring the busy classrooms, beautiful grounds and state-of-the-art facilities. As all our students were on-site taking part in lessons and activities, they were able to get a taste of the various departments and an insight into all the different areas of school life.
“ I wanted to thank [the] Year 10 pupil … who kindly showed us around. She is an incredible asset to the school, answered all questions intelligently and was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and kind.”
A visit to the English department saw visitors taking part in Found Poetry – a hands on activity resulting in visually striking poetry created like magic from the leaves of novels, while those curious to find out more about STEM at Royal High were able to get hands on with dissections, food tests, microscopy and perfume making in our Science Department. In the meantime, keen linguists were challenged to get stamps for their passport in our Languages café by taking part in the games that saw them travelling around Europe and the world. So, just how do you ask for a cupcake or cookie in French, Italian or Spanish?
There were also plenty of opportunities to get creative –– from joining our drama students as they transformed into Belle, Gaston and other favourite characters while rehearsing for this term’s big production of Beauty & Beast to trying your hand at working the deck in our Music Tech recording studio, as well as to enjoy Sport by watch our cricketers being put through their paces on Paddock Field or cheering on the U13AB Hockey team as they played a match against Cathedral School Llandaff.
All parents and children were given a school tour by our students allowing them a chance to chat to and find out from our students themselves about the many wonderful opportunities, values and education the school provides.
A big thank you to all our tour guides for making our Open Morning run very efficiently - you were all fantastic ambassadors and helped give parents and children a real insight into what it is like to be a Royal High School Bath student.
Tours were followed by the Head’s address and a tea and coffee afterwards during which there was the opportunity to chat to Mrs Reynolds, our Head, and to join our Admissions Team and other key staff including members of our academic, pastoral and boarding teams.
Here are just a couple comments from parents who attended:
“I wanted to say how grateful we were for the excellent tour given to us by [Year 10 and Year 9 students]. Both girls were delightful and informative and put my daughter at ease. We appreciate them giving up their Saturday morning, please pass on our thanks.”
“I just wanted to thank the school for a lovely Open Day on Saturday. In particular, I wanted to thank [the] Year 10 pupil … who kindly showed us around. She is an incredible asset to the school, answered all questions intelligently and was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and kind.”
We are so thrilled that our first Open Morning back since 2019 was such a well-attended and successful event. We look forward to seeing these new families again should they choose to join our school community.
