Míla, Year 8 wins Best Children's Picture Book at the International Independent Publishers Awards 2021
Senior School
We are delighted to announce that a Year 8 student, Míla Coxon, has received the best children's picture book 2021 for 'A Tale for a Sleepy Bunny' at the International Independent Publishers Awards 2021.
Míla started writing the book when she was 9 but it was not until late 2020 when she worked with illustrator Karen Bentley as a project during the first UK lockdown that the story was brought to life with loveable, child-friendly images that the book was finally published.
Míla originally set out writing the book as a bedtime story for her younger cousins who struggled to get to sleep. The story follows the journey of a little bunny who takes the advice of her furry friends including a fox, giraffe and a cat, on how to relax before bedtime.
The hardback picture book is said to be a must for any parent or guardian with young children and has already appeared on TV.
Helen Stephens, Creative Director at 'From You to Me' who published the book said: "We were delighted to get this international award for Best Children's Picture Book and so pleased Míla has received this accolade at such an early start in her life."
Kate Reynolds, Head of Royal High School said: “We are exceptionally proud of Míla whose creativity has also been evident within the school. Her accomplishment is especially impressive because it was created during lockdown. I know the younger girls at our Prep School will enjoy reading ‘A Tale for Sleepy Bunny’ and meeting the author too! Well done Míla.”
We will celebrate Míla’s amazing achievement at their Final Assembly on Thursday 8th July.
