Students in Year 9 were treated to a visit from the New York Times best-selling author Megan Whalen Turner, who visited school to talk to students about the latest book in her award-winning series The Queen’s Thief.

Megan has been writing fantasy fiction for a number of years and has inspired popular YA authors such as Cassandra Clare and Holly Black.  Megan shared her considerable knowledge and experience with RHB students who benefited from her expertise during a creative writing workshop.  After discussing the different types of fantasy books (portal, immersion, liminal, etc) students were given advice about how to begin their own stories with many receiving individual personalised guidance from Megan.

Megan was a knowledgeable and stimulating speaker, generous with both her time and advice. Her encouragement will no doubt spur on the many eager writers who had the privilege of hearing her tips.  We look forward to welcoming Megan back to school in the future.
