Boarders' weekend of bowling and baking
Senior School, Boarding
“ Our boarding staff organise a range of fun and interesting activities every weekend, taking into account what else is happening in school, in order to provide the ideal balance for the girls. We understand the importance of making time for the girls to unwind and socialise with their friends.”
In addition to a busy schedule of lessons and independent study, a typical week as a Royal High Bath boarder also comprises a wide range of co-curricular activities, including many over the weekend.
To ensure our boarders get a good mix of lessons and leisure time, our boarding staff organise a range of fun and interesting activities every weekend, taking into account what else is happening in school, in order to provide the ideal balance for the girls. We understand the importance of making time for the girls to unwind and socialise with their friends.
This weekend was no exception, with activities that ranged from excursions to town for bowling, crazy golf and sampling desserts to baking in their home-from-home in the School House kitchen.
On Saturday, our Year 7 and Year 8 boarders went bowling at the Bath Leisure Centre which has its very own eight lane bowling alley. The girls had a fantastic time; their competitive sides came out as they each tried to get the highest score. Equally they were very encouraging of one another, cheering each other whenever anyone got - or came close to - getting a strike. The highest score was a very respectable 107! They also managed to take some time out from bowling to enjoy some treats from the snack bar.
Year 9 boarders went to Heavenly Desserts, known for their beautifully presented and delicious sweet treats including the Croffle, a cross between a waffle and a croissant. The girls had a wonderful time looking over the extensive menu and each choosing something to eat and drink. The service and atmosphere was welcoming and friendly and the desserts were all delicious.
Year 10 boarders visited Boom Battle Bar, an interactive sports entertainment venue. They enjoyed a variety of group activities including nine-hole crazy golf, augmented reality darts, and shuffleboard. It was the perfect combination of and the girls had a great time trying out all the different activities, many for the firs time.
On Sunday, Year 7- Year 10 boarders competed in an Easter themed baking competition with a winner and runner-up in each year group. Year 7 and Year 8 girls made rocky road cakes decorated with mini eggs, icing, biscuits, and fluffy chicks. Year 9 boarders made lemon curd and jam biscuits - with the added challenge of coming up with creative shapes! Year 10 boarders made hot cross buns, a traditional spiced bun usually made with fruit, marked with a cross on the top and eaten at Easter. These are notoriously hard to bake well, but our Year 10s' hot cross buns turned out wonderfully. The judge described these as having excellent texture and taste.
