Writing success for Year 11 student
Senior School
Well done to Jess, one of our students in Year 11, who has recently had an article published on local website, Bath Voice. Jess writes about her concerns with fast fashion.
Following this article, we asked Jess about her passion for writing, and she told us about why she loves to write as well as her hopes for the future...
For me writing is a quintessential form of self-expression, since I can remember I have been a creative, whether through art or story telling; I always wanted to express myself in a way that allows me to convey a message or express something I’m passionate about to another person. I grew up in an arts loving home, my mother’s musicality and father’s art ability meant I was never void of creative influence. I believe this gave me a richer understanding of how impactful something like writing can be, from that point on I knew I wanted to be a writer.
While I love writing, another big part of my life is music. Though I may have not taken to actually playing an instrument, I do believe playing the air guitar to any Queen song counts as musical ability. For me music tells a story, the way a poem does; the open and honest thoughts of a person has always had a profound affect on me, I love to really take in lyrics and I believe my writing often emulates the poetic style of music, in the way it flows and how the content often is personal.
I believe the ability to write or create artistry is in everyone, the thoughts and feelings we all possess are definitely something so strong that to understand their complexity you must find the meaning within the arts. I write because I love it and I hope the future allows me to continue this whatever form it manifests itself in whether through writing articles, plays or even poems, the ability to create something impactful is what I will forever value.
