Pupils represent Royal High at GDST Royal Institution Science day
Nursery and Prep School
Five of our Year 5 pupils represented our school at the Royal Institution Science event in London this week. Along with lots of other GDST students, the girls took part in an engineering session where they had to work as a team to construct a vehicle from cardboard. The challenge was to reinforce it for a crash test and inside was a chocolate egg, which had to be protected and safe! They did very well, and the impact was taken by their bumper and bonnet leaving the egg intact.
In the lecture theatre, the girls listened to inspirational female PHD students who described their interest in science as well as their projects. The girls were certainly inspired by this. Learning the process of extracting DNA in a laboratory was another fascinating session the girls took part in. They proudly went away with a necklace holding their own DNA. Lastly, we watched an impressive show back in the theatre. It was loud, messy and explosive! What an exciting event!
