RHSB presents The Wizard of Oz
Senior School, Performing Arts
“ I liked the music and all the characters. I would give it 100 out of 10!”Audience member from St Mary's Catholic Primary School, Bath
Last week the school was buzzing with excitement and anticipation as months of hard work came to fruition with our student production of The Wizard of Oz.
We were delighted to welcome local primary school children from St Stephen's Primary Church School, St Mary's Catholic Primary School and Abbot Alphege Academy as well as our Royal High Prep School to our dress rehearsals.
We had some pretty awesome reviews from our young audiences. We especially enjoyed this one from one of the St Mary's pupils who said: "I liked the music and all the characters. I would give it 100 out of 10"!
Audiences for all four performances (Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday's matinee and Saturday night) all were inclined to agree and greeted the casts at the end with thunderous applause.
The choice of The Wizard of Oz could not have been more apt, and is best explained by Mrs Vincent-Norgate, RHSB's Head of Drama who said in her programme notes:
"In our production Dorothy is reminded that those who love her at home will always be alongside her, supporting her and waiting for her. She follows her own heart and learns how to stand up for what she believes is right with authority figures like the Wicked Witch and the Wizard herself. All the characters find their confidence throughout the journey and they become more alive and more themselves as they do. We see Dorothy totally accept and appreciate the quirks in her new companions and gratefully accepts their help to go out in search of her dreams. Through Dorothy, we realise just how powerful we are, that everything we have been looking for has been with us all along.
"Dorothy Gale would have been an RHSB girl, she has a streak of boldness, she is outspoken and headstrong. She is described as compassionate and courageous, she displays her vulnerability and fears, but she is calmly determined to overcome them on her difficult journey. Yes, she would have been at home here with us!
"We will forever tell the girls we teach, to follow their deams, 'over the rainbow' and beyond."
Congratulations to the Emerald City and Yellow Brick casts, crew, orchestra, and the amazingly dedicated staff.
From Yellow Brick Cast's opening night warm up, to Emerald City's closing night bows .....
It was truly magical!
Thank you all for coming
See you next year!
