Weekly Reflections: Why International Women’s Day Still Matters
Every year, without fail, someone asks, “Do we still need International Women’s Day?” The short answer: Yes. The slightly longer answer: Yes, because while we’ve made huge strides towards gender equality, there’s still a way to go. And as the head of a girls’ school, I see firsthand why this day is as important as ever.Our students are growing up in a world full of opportunity, ambition, and role models. But they’re also growing up in a world where women are still underrepresented in leadership, still earn less than men on average, and still face barriers—both seen and unseen—that hold them back. International Women’s Day is a chance to acknowledge both the progress we’ve made and the work that’s still to be done.
Weekly Reflections: Celebrating Pi
Mrs Diana Bolan, Second in Charge of Mathematics, writes on our annual celebration of Pi... Each year, the Maths Department takes great pleasure in leading the school’s celebration of Pi Day. Pi Day has its origins in 1988 when physicist Larry Shaw first organized festivities at the Exploratorium science museum in San Francisco. The event falls on March 14th, as the digits 3, 1, and 4 correspond to the first three digits of π, which aligns with the date in the American system of writing dates (3/14).
Year 7 Student's Handmade Scrunchies Raise Nearly £300 for Charity
We are incredibly proud of Year 7 student Niamh, who has been fundraising tirelessly for The Carers’ Centre in Bath, a charity that has provided invaluable support to her and her family.With her mum preparing to run the Bath Half Marathon next weekend to raise money for the centre, Niamh was determined to do her part. While she’s too young to take part in the race herself, she found a creative way to contribute—by crocheting scrunchies in our RHB school colours and selling them during break times at school (with a little help from her friends!).
World Book Day 2025
We had a brilliant World Book Day 2025, celebrating reading across school, with some fabulous costume efforts!
Charlcombe Meadows - Year 9 Problem Based Learning Project
As part of their Problem Based Learning programme, Year 9 were asked to respond to a letter from the local community group, Friends of Charlcombe Meadows, outlining their plans for a new outdoor community nature space, Charlcombe Meadows. The students were asked to make a plan to either design a bridge to cross the stream, a bench or a walking trail around the nature reserve.
Year 3 Pantomime - Jack and the Beanstalk
The recent Year 3 pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, was a smash hit! The girls worked hard during their Music, Dance, and Drama lessons to prepare for the show. They impressed everyone with their clear projection, expressive acting, and confident delivery of songs, dances, and dialogue.
Girls in Tech at University of the West of England
Year 7 and 8 girls enjoyed a stimulating day out at the University of the West of England's inaugural Girls in Tech event. During the trip, organised by the Computer Science department, the girls had the opportunity to speak to undergraduates studying Games Technology (and try out some of their creations), design and plan a net zero city, choose how a company should respond to a debilitating cyberattack and complete an escape room challenge using binary decoding and cryptography skills.
Fantastic funds raised at Curry and Quiz Night
After a break of over two years, it was a pleasure to resurrect the Curry and Quiz night last month. The enthusiasm to take part was evident, as the event was a sell out within about forty-eight hours. Given our objective was to raise money for our fabulous performing arts department and their purchase of radio mics; the evening promised to be both fun and purposeful.
Year 7 Students Get Hands-On with Engineering at BRLSI
Year 7 students had an exciting day of innovation and discovery at the Brilliantly Engineered event, held at the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution (BRLSI) in Queen Square.
