The Classics Department was delighted to host Dr Naomi Scott and PhD student Lily Bickers from University of Bristol on 14th November to talk about Greek Epic and Greek Theatre to nearly 150 Classics and Drama students from Royal High and local schools.
Celebrating our global community with our International Gala
A standout event of the Autumn term is our yearly International Gala, a celebration of the rich global tapestry at Royal High School Bath, which comprises students from over 25 different nationalities. Our international students, together with Miss Cheers, Head of International Students, crafted a program featuring songs, music, dance, poetry, with the grand finale of the international catwalk.
Armistice Day 2024
This week we marked Armistice Day across Royal High. An important feature for our school with our long historical connection with military families.
Head's Blog: Wittgenstein and Remembrance
Paul Wittgenstein was a renowned Austrian-American concert pianist known for introducing new piano concertos by Ravel, Richard Strauss, Britten and Korngold. What is unusual about these works is that they are written for the left hand alone. Wittgenstein was an amputee, having lost his right arm after being shot in the elbow at the battle of Galicia. Despite his injury and subsequent persecution by the Nazi regime, Wittgenstein’s dedication allowed him to bring new art to the world in the years following World War One, which we commemorated with a special assembly and display on Monday. Boudica in Latin with Year 3 and Year 9
On 11th November, Armistice Day, we remembered another ancient war – between the Romans and the forces of Boudica in Roman Britain during 61 CE. In a special workshop, Year 3 joined forces with Year 9 to learn about the revolt of Boudica and teach them some useful Latin phrases.

As many of you will know, I have recently returned from Hong Kong where I was privileged to meet prospective students as well receiving a warm welcome from alumnae and current parents. The trip was truly instructive in allowing me to gain something of an understanding of the experiences of these students.
Gloucester House Celebrates Halloween
Gloucester House, our Sixth Form boarding house, celebrated Halloween with a party. It was an amazing evening with party food, games, spooky decorations, and of course fancy dress!
Developing a love of phonics in Reception
Our Reception children at RHB Prep have come back from half term with continued enthusiasm and energy. They have developed a love of phonics and literacy sessions and when they are told it’s phonics time a cheer goes up in the classroom, usually followed by ‘I love phonics!’.
RHB Nursery celebrates Diwali
During half term Nursery celebrated Diwali. The girls enjoyed creating Diya lamps using clay, making samosas in cookery, and creating rangoli patterns using chalk. We listened to the traditional story of Rama and Sita and used props to act out the story, even creating a real bridge for Rama to cross to recuse Sita.
