Speech Day 2020

Royal High voices

‘We all get one life, go live it.’”
Emily Brooke MBE

There was absolutely nothing 'virtual' about this year's Speech Day, except of course that it was held online. Girls, their parents, friends and families, as well as RHS staff all joined to listen to addresses from Mr Richard Hall, Chair of Governors; Mrs Kate Reynolds, Head; and Guest Speaker, Emily Brookes MBE, Entrepreneur and RHS Alumna.

Heads of Department also spoke of the wealth of achievements and successes made by the girls throughout this extraordinary year - and then awarded prizes to girls who have excelled in their field. With a vote of thanks from Head Girl, Mathura Kathirgamanathan, the proceedings also included stunning musical recitals, a poetry reading and many other highlights which made it a really special community event, despite us not being together.

It was, however, Emily Brooke who stole the show with her inspirational talk about how she developed her Beryl Bike Lights having been motivated by personal tragedy to build something of value alongside a new-found passion for cycling. She spoke really fondly of her time at RHS and the lifelong friendships she made here and encouraged current students to ‘…do what you love.'

It was a fitting end to a term of Guided Home Learning and was the perfect way to end the term on a high.
