Student Voice
Royal High voices, Sixth Form
The Student Voice prefects, Sophie Phipson and Eliana Woosnam, joined the weekly Senior Leadership Team meeting and shared how much students across the Senior School enjoyed the 'Knowledge is Power' week. The focus was on intersectional feminism and it was a week run entirely by students for students, lead by the Student Voice prefects, and events included guest speaker talks, debates, a collaborative art project, poetry readings and the launch of two new societies: LGBT pride and sign language. These two new societies have been brilliantly attended, and students have commented on how they have created an empowering, positive and inclusive space for discussion.
As the democratic representatives of the student voice, they shared feelings about the school uniform policy and the food offering. The next action for the Undivided society is to cultivate a manifesto for the group, as well as a glossary of key terminology to empower the whole school community to have meaningful conversations about these urgent issues of race, identity and social justice. They also summarised their reflections on their access to GDST-wide initiatives and discussion platforms to connect with students across the network.
“ The confident and assured representation by Sophie and Eliana at our Senior Leadership Team meeting is testament to these students determination to represent their peers and ensure their voices are heard throughout the School. I look forward to hearing further updates from our Student Voice prefects in the new year.”~ Mrs Reynolds, Head
