Students enjoy cheese tasting session

“ A big part of our Food Technology lessons is also getting the girls to explore different foods and tastes, develop evaluation skills and to take part in discussions about food cultures of other countries.”
Our thanks to Ruth Rankin, a cheese expert from The Fine Cheese Company, who gave a fantastically interesting cheese talk and tasting for our Food Technology GCSE students, Sixth Form Advanced Cooking students and Design and Technology scholars.
She provided a range of different cheese styles, some British, others European and explained how each cheese is made and cared for. The students really enjoyed the session and were very brave about trying cheese they were not sure about – for example, there was some strong camembert and stilton which might not be to everyone's taste.
Food Technology at RHSB is designed to enable students to learn about food and cooking through experiments, demonstrations and practical applications. A big part of our Food Technology lessons is also getting the girls to explore different foods and tastes, develop evaluation skills and to take part in discussions about food cultures of other countries.
