Two chosen for Expedition Mountain Storm 23
Senior School, Student Success
Two of our students, Laura and Catherine, both Corporals in the Filton Squadron 2152 Air Cadets (Bristol and Gloucestershire Wing), are among an elite team of Air Cadets selected for Expedition Mountain Storm 23. The expedition is held only every two years and this year’s is the first one to take place since the Covid pandemic.
Out of 135 cadets who applied, Laura was one of the successful 22 who will go on to undertake the two week trip to Canada in August 2023, while Catherine was selected for one of the three reserve places, and so will take the place of anyone who drops out.
“ Out of 135 cadets who applied, Laura was one of the successful 22 who will go on to undertake the two week trip to Canada in August 2023, while Catherine was selected for one of the three reserve places.”
Laura and Catherine both underwent a two-stage selection process which included an initial formal written application and statement followed by an intensive selection weekend with 38 other cadets in the Forest of Dean in mid-September.
Now it has been confirmed that Laura will be going on the Expedition and that Catherine has a reserve place, over the coming months both Royal High School girls will complete all the UK based intensive training weekends. This includes trips to Dartmoor, Brecon Beacons, North Wales and Little Rissington Airfield combined Cadet Force training site to prepare for the Expedition. Their training will cover such things as navigation, wilderness training (including Bear and Cougar training), and expedition readiness and skills training such as First Aid and Climatic Injuries training.
“ Well done to Laura and Catherine on this significant achievement. We are proud of your confidence, courage and commitment and know you will make the most of this experience to reach your full potential and to make your marks on the outside world.”
It is important to us here at Royal High School Bath that so many of our students opt to take part in extra-curricular activities and clubs in order to challenge themselves beyond lessons and academic life. Our role is very much to support them in their endeavours, to encourage our students to be fearless and to learn without limits, thus enabling each student to pursue their individual passion and to be the best that they can be.
