Weekend fun in boarding: climbing and crochet
Senior School, Boarding
On Saturday our Y7-9 boarders visited Rockstar climbing centre in Swindon. They went on the "fun walls" area where the colourful and creative walls had different challenges. All the walls had different shaped holds and support grips; some had supports that moved or spun. The girls were great with supporting each other when they reached the top of a wall and hit the buzzer. One wall had no supports at all and you had to use your arms and legs (and maybe your back depending on technique) to make your way up like Spiderman (!), and a lot of the students gathered in awe and cheered one of our Y9s who made it all the way to the top. In the middle of the fun walls was a spiral of towers, designed to look like high-rise flats, which proved the most popular climb. You could crawl, climb, or walk your way to the top and jump down, and for an extra challenge, you could wear a blindfold whilst climbing the towers or try to beat the clock.
Y11 took a break from their GCSE mock exam revision for a special "revision tea" with the housemistresses. They shared cakes, sweet treats, and drinks and enjoyed a well-earned break to catch up with friends.
On Sunday Y7-8 learnt how to crochet in the common room. They followed instructions to make colourful, circular designs which could be used as a keyring or coaster. They showed teamwork and helped each other on the more fiddly bits.
Y9 enjoyed an afternoon of sports. They played badminton and practised netball passes and drills after enjoying the sports department's netball morning the day before.
Y10 had "R&R" (rest and relaxation) while Y11 took a break from all their hard work and revision to play badminton. Two of the girls took it in turns to name short facts whilst playing to solidify what they had just revised.
