Wembley Stadium trip to see the England Football Team
Senior School, Nursery and Prep School, Boarding, Sport
Seventy of our girls from across the Prep and Senior school were wowed by the Lionesses' incredible comeback against the formidable Netherlands at Wembley Stadium on Friday night, in their penultimate UEFA Women's Nations League match of the group stages.
The girls loved the trip from beginning to end, and the two shout outs we got on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on Radio 2 set the tone for the day ahead! The girls sang their way to Wembley on the coach, including 'Sweet Caroline', 'Three Lions on the Shirt' and 'Come on England' to get us in the mood, and enjoyed the game adorned with red and white face paint, waving their flags, cheering for their favourite players, and leaping up for every Mexican wave that went round to keep the crowd warm - not to mention the cheering and jumping for every goal.
It was a nail-biting game, with England being 2-0 down at half time, only to bounce back in the second half with 2 incredible goals from Georgia Stanway and Lauren Hemp to equalise, a great save from Mary Earps, and a phenomenal stoppage-time winner by Ella Toone to secure victory. The girls saw firsthand not only how hard the players have to work, but how the destiny of a live football match can turn within minutes, and just how exciting that can be.
Seeing our inspiring, iconic Lionesses live, so soon after their historic World Cup performance, was a really special experience - one that we hope our girls will remember for many years to come.
