Year 12 and 13 IB students work on collaborative ‘Group 4 Project’

Over the course of two days this week, Year 12 and 13 IB Science students have been working on the collaborative ‘Group 4 Project’ in which they were assigned to mixed discipline teams and challenged to research a prescribed topic. The IB Group Four Project is an obligatory part of the IB science course and is designed by teachers to be multidisciplinary, collaborative and reflective.
The IB 'Group 4 Project' is an obligatory part of the IB science course for pre-university students usually aged 18-19. Projects are designed to be multidisciplinary, collaborative and reflective which also draws upon our Royal high School Learner Qualities too.
This year, students were given the title of
‘Plastic bags’ and from this, groups chose to investigate the breakdown of biodegradable bags using digestive enzymes, made their own environmentally
friendly plastic in the lab from potato, orange and banana, and tried to extract
plastic from water using magnetism.
Year 10 and 11 students were invited to attend their
Science Fair, in which students presented their findings and competed to be
crowned the winning team.
