Year 5 pupils step back to Victorian era
Nursery and Prep School
“ Our girls were fully engaged and responded brilliantly to the formidable, "Miss Squire" who was in full Victorian costume and kept in character the entire time.”
Year 5 pupils took a step back in time to the late 19th century at Sevington Victorian School, experiencing a day in the life of a Victorian child.
Our girls were fully engaged and responded brilliantly to the formidable, "Miss Squire" who was in full Victorian costume and kept in character the entire time. This together with the authentic building and all the accompanying artefacts - including Miss Squire's desk, pointer and blackboard - really helped recreate the past in a way that enabled the children to understand what it was like to have lived in those times.
It was very interesting to learn that the original Miss Squire was a teacher at the school for more than fifty years. When she retired, the schoolroom was left untouched so what is there today was just how it would have looked in Miss Squire's day.
Our warmest thanks to "Miss Squire" and all the other dedicated staff and volunteers at Sevington Victorian School for welcoming us and providing such a unique experience.
