Year 6 compose positivity pop songs

“ The girls ... rehearsed their song first for our Sound Technician, Mr Bradley, and his Year 7 assistants, Maude and Jemima, to check their levels and then each group recorded their song in just one take! Remarkable! I was so proud of them.”Head of Performing Arts at Royal High Bath Prep School
On Friday 19 May, our Year 6 pupils had an exciting morning in our professionally equipped recording studio at our Senior School. This marked the end of a fantastic project which saw our pupils composing the lyrics and melodies to their own pop songs, on the theme of positivity. The girls worked in groups of four and five and demonstrated wonderful team skills, as well as imagination and creativity.
Some of the amazing, heartfelt lyrics include:
Deep down there’s a spark,
So let it out and sing.
Hold your head high,
Until you reach the sky.
When you can’t find the sunshine,
Be the sunshine,
Do what your heart tells you.
The sun is up,
The sky is blue,
The day is beautiful and so are you.
Shoot for the moon,
Even if you miss,
You’ll land among the stars,
There are better days on their way.
So trust the magic of new beginnings
Because you’re amazing
You think you can’t do it but you can!
We know you can, we know you can.
We need love,
As we need air,
We need each other.
As we need the earth we share.
Just don’t worry,
If the sun sets,
Because the sun will rise tomorrow.
Stay positive,
Better days are on their way.
Mrs Millard, Head of Performing Arts at Royal High Bath Prep School said: "The girls were very excited to be given the opportunity to record their very own songs in the All-Steinway Music School's fabulous recording studio.
"They rehearsed their song first for our Sound Technician, Mr Bradley, and his Year 7 assistants, Maude and Jemima, to check their levels and then each group recorded their song in just one take! Remarkable! I was so proud of them.
"Many thanks to Mr Bradley, Maude and Jemima for their help with the recording. We can’t wait to hear the final version of the songs."
Keep your ears peeled for performances of these songs in Friday assemblies in the coming weeks!
