“ Many congratulations to four of our Year 6 pupils who were placed in the top 10% score for their age group in the UK Bebras Computing Challenge run by Oxford University.”
Last term all the girls in Year 4 – 6 took part in The Bebras Computing Challenge. Run by Oxford University, this challenge introduces the girls to computational thinking and involves solving complex problems against the clock using skills such as algorithm design, pattern recognition, logic and abstraction.
Year 6 pupils who performed exceptionally well were invited to take part in a further round of computing challenges.
Many congratulations to four of our Year 6 pupils, Ellie, Josie, Leah and Louise, who were awarded a special certificate for being placed in the top 10% score in the country for their age group.
More than 365,000 pupils nationwide took part in the UK Bebras Challenge this year, with over 117,000 participating in the same section as our Year 6 pupils so this is a remarkable achievement.
Kirsty Robson, Year 5 teacher, said “The Bebras Challenge is such a great competition as it is accessible to everyone and provides pupils with a fantastic chance to showcase what they have learnt in Computing as well as Maths throughout the year. Our girls have been working extremely hard so this is a wonderful reward, as well as hopefully motivation for them to carry on developing their computational thinking and problem solving skills.
"As a result of their exceptional scores, our four superstars will now be taking part in The Oxford University Computing Challenge. This is an invitation-only challenge for talented UK students to produce fully programmed solutions to computational thinking problems within strict time. We are sure they will do us proud and wish the girls lots of luck in the next challenge."
