Year 7 Roman Morning
Senior School, Classics
A highlight of the Spring term for our Year 7s is the Roman Morning. Bringing the whole year group together for interactive workshops with visiting Romans (professional re-enactors), to really bring their Latin studies to life.
The girls looked fantastic in their homemade Roman costumes. It was a struggle to judge the winning costumes as they paraded around the sports hall, but prize winners are Etta, Sylvia B, Imogen F and Libby C. Gennie W was the overall winner, dressed as a very convincing Roman soldier with homemade chain mail.
After some games (Medusa’s footsteps and Roman whispers), it was time to meet Legio II Augusta. As professional re-enactors, who regularly work in film and television, they bring the Roman world to life. The Roman centurion told us all about army life, ably assisted by students modelling helmets and answering questions. The Roman lady focused on domestic life. She runs a gladiator school and our student volunteers enjoyed dressing up as gladiators and staging a mock fight.
Year 7 impressed the visitors with their costumes, wonderful engagement and great questions. Well-deserved merits and Heads’ Commendations have been awarded. Optime fecisti, omnes! Well done, everyone!
