Year 7 Students Get Hands-On with Engineering at BRLSI

Senior School, Girls in STEM, Design Technology

Year 7 students had an exciting day of innovation and discovery at the Brilliantly Engineered event, held at the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution (BRLSI) in Queen Square.

Partnering with engineers from the James Dyson Foundation, students put their creativity to the test as they designed, built, and fine-tuned balloon-powered model cars. Through trial, error, and expert guidance, they explored the principles of aerodynamics and propulsion—tweaking their designs to maximize speed and efficiency.

Beyond their high-speed challenge, students also engaged with interactive engineering exhibits. These hands-on activities deepened their understanding of engineering principles while sparking curiosity about real-world applications.

The event was a fantastic opportunity for students to develop problem-solving skills, collaborate with engineers, and experience the thrill of bringing their ideas to life. Who knows—perhaps this day will inspire the next generation of inventors and innovators!
