Year 13 Yuyuan's guzheng recital

We were so lucky to have the opportunity to enjoy a lunchtime guzheng recital by Year 13 student Yuyuan this week in our Steinway Music School, marking the conclusion of our Chinese New Year celebrations. 

Yuyuan performed a captivating piece composed by guzheng musician Deng Yiqun. He drew inspiration from the poem "Ding Feng Bo" by Su Shi, written in 1082, as well as the poet’s turbulent experiences and his resilient, open-minded outlook on life. In this composition, Deng portrays the wind and rain Su Shi encountered when he was exiled by the emperor due to political turmoil, as well as the shifting emotions that accompanied this ordeal. The piece ultimately captures Su Shi’s transcendence in the face of adversity, embodying his calm and unshaken attitude toward life’s storms.
